Feeling a bit exhausted. Run of early mornings and not quite early enough to beds.
Up this morning for a dose of Angels, and I did manage to summon up the energy to kick it. Took a break from anything at lunchtime though. I suspect this week has been quite good from a calorie deficit point of view – I have felt hungry a lot despite having adequate amounts to eat – if I can get rid of the extra couple of kilos at this stage, it wouldn’t go amiss. I’m not too worried about weight, I don’t have a lot to shift this year, but I would like to drop a little.
Got home and forced myself out the door for a run. I wanted to do the intervals session postponed from Tuesday, but I was also conscious of being tired, hungry and a bit leg sore. I made a reasonable go at 4 x 1000m @ 1:30 – not very fast, but I didn’t pull anything and I did cluster them – so that’s a success.
With swapping yesterday’s session for today’s, I was now looking at fitting in a bike and run of around an hour each. However, I was planning to work from home, so fitting in the first session this morning was easy, and I didn’t even have to get up at the crack of dawn, just 6:30am.
Decided to bike again after last night’s session, and tackled Angels, my long time favourite. Legs felt great and I gave it a good go.
Went to the docs at lunchtime for the results of the x-rays and bloodwork from the other week. No great shakes. A bit of degenerative change in my knee, blah blah blah…
Ran the 11k route to Echo Lodge Road. Out at a good clip, turned around into a headwind and realised that I probably hadn’t eaten enough today! Picked it up though and ran a very even split. Felt great – I am just loving running at the moment – I always do, but especially at the moment. I wonder if it will translate into race results?!
Oh, and my new front wheel arrived today too. Looks great, more on this at some point…
Still in the spirit of taking things easy, so I didn’t run today. Actually, that’s more because of high winds, low wind chill and blowing snow. The blizzard we were forecasted, turned out to be more wind than snowfall – still, not the nicest day to be out. Not that I’m a fair-weather runner, I’m absolutely not, I’ll be out there tomorrow come what may…
Coming to think of it, I didn’t run today not because of the weather, or because I was supposed to be taking it easy, but because it was long bike day! And I didn’t take it easy either.
This was a 3 hour, Sufferfest triple bill day. Angels, Hell Hath No Fury and The Wretched all at a good effort. I was having to dig to keep the effort high towards the end of The Wretched, right enough. Had to stop after the second hour for a bite to eat, took a cup of hot soup back down to the bike in the basement, that really hit the spot!
Tour of Sufferlandria – Stage 5 – Angels
Early stage start this morning, climbed on my bike shortly before 6am. A bit tired and sore in the knee department, and for a while I was dreaming of white castles with Bertie, as he obviously hadn’t had his porridge either (don’t eat the beef, Bertie!). I did rally sorta, kinda, but didn’t manage to pull out as much of a gap as I would have liked. With several hundred Sufferlandrians all having the same idea of attacking on this stage, the team plan was a little confused – Grunter von Agony, the DS, yelling in my ear something about wildebeast, and greasing them as if pigs – what? Like I say, a little confused… it was as much as I could do to keep Sanchez in my sights and keep plugging away…
Off for an hour masters swim session this evening, and then home for a birthday glass of sparkly wine and much needed heavy nourishment!
Ooft, tough day. Had such a blast yesterday that I went and spoiled it all by celebrating the first evening of my vacation with too much Captain Morgan!
Wasn’t hungover this morning but a little lacklustre! However, I bashed on with a 2:30 cycle on the trainer, followed by a 6k tempo run as a brick.
Watched the final hour of the Aussies Abroad Kona 2012 coverage, and great coverage it was too – if you ignore Liggett making like he knows the ironman world champs inside out.
Followed that with Angels – day 2 of Sufferfestukah! Didn’t hit 100% to be honest, made a decent effort of it though. Now, Angels is probably my fave Sufferfest session. I love the structure, the music, the vibe of this one. Stand out tracks are hard to pick, but I’ve long been a fan of ‘Midas’ by Tokyo – “In my dreams, I see white castles, beautiful as gold”, ‘Deep Sea Diver’ by Heifervescent – “the lengths that I must go to, to keep the flies away”, and the dubstep track part way up d’Huez, which is unlisted. Then, I finished off with a half hour episode of the ironman tv show.
Hopped off the bike, changed out of my drenched bike longs and went for a run. Set off hard but the pace caught with me on the way back. This wasn’t a bad thing as it reminded me that I shouldn’t be going eyeballs out at this of year, yet also reminded me about the evils of hard liquor, low calories and dehydration – lessons I need reminding of periodically! Still a decent run though.
I feel absolutely beat tonight though and at 9pm am contemplating the pleasures of bed. Tomorrow should be long run day – hmm…
